Liz, I'm very sorry for your loss. You were lucky to have shared with her for 18 years, and although it was already her time to depart, it doesn´t make her loss less painful but with time the pain will become more manageable. Please accept my condolences and know that we are here to share your huge grief and go by your side during mourning process.

Yes it was her time. She had done a fantastic job over the last year. The vet didn't think she would be alive at Christmas 08 and in Jan. only gave her a couple of months to live. But we proved them wrong for a few months. I left her longer yesterday than I probably should have. She had been given pain relief, but she had hurt her leg during the night at the vet. I am not sure how bad it was, but I didn't want to take her back to the vet earlier than we organised because I knew it was her last day and I wanted to spend every minute I could with her. So I carried her around most of the day. She still wanted her chin rubbed. We spend some time in the sun, went to visit my mum in the aged care home, and watched some black cockatoos fly past our window. I wanted her to grow wings and fly off with the cockatoos into the sunset. She was a black cat and would have looked great with black wings. I know she was ready to go. Her tiny body couldn't fight anymore.
But being separated from her just hurts so much. I don’t know what to do or how to cope!

I know it is very hard and we never know how to cope with the pain of the loss. Just let time do its job but you need patience. Try to be with people who will not pretend from you to get over the loss before it is the right time for you.
